Golf Mental Strategies To Really Focus

The golf mental area of any golfers game is the play where they can really deliver great results. Golf is all about the mental game, your body and your golf swing working together. You cannot have one without the other.

Golf pros fight against themselves in their mind too. We let our minds take us away so easily. We are like time machines jumping around in time checking the future score and focussing on our negative past instead of being here now.

This is about our emotional management too. Staying focussed and confident despite our own emotional and mental distractions is the question here.

It comes down to routines, clear mental anchors and having a plan too.

Your mind, body and emotions work as a unit. They all impact your golf swing so they depend on each other. There is a time to think. It is not in competition trying to figure out your game.

Your mind needs training just like your body and emotions. Take the time to train your mind. What’s your plan for staying calm and focussed when it counts? On the tee or on the green?

For instance we know in performance excellence there is a chain of excellence from breathing to your physiology, to emotional state to you performing golfing excellence. Modelling excellence is something we can all do. Your breathe is the key to managing high performance states.

What do you do when at shot does not work for you? Focus on your breathe.

Confidence is an emotional state. To be confident stand, walk and play like you are. How does a confident person hold their body and breathe?

If you want to putt with confidence have a putting routine that sets you up for success. Make it identical every time. Build in discipline, notice what you are feeling when over the ball, if the putt does not look or feel right, know to pull away and reset yourself. It will save you many strokes off the tee and on the green.

Have a strategy for dealing with a shot that goes out of play. Rather than going for glory and gambling where you might get it through the trees or over the water, just get the ball back in play. It is a smart play.

Once you move into address the time for thinking which includes talking to yourself and internal dialogue is over. If you trust your golf swing and setup, your routine and you know what shot you are playing and where exactly you are hitting too and it feels right, well it is time to play the shot and simply be in your body.

By the way, your breathing should have started back when you were standing behind the ball and decided the line you intend to play. Just be present, breathe in and breathe out, a natural rhythm to play the shot. All of you playing to the target. Mind, body, swing and golf club too.

Boost your golf mental game and focus on your strengths. Golfing excellence is about being prepared, having solid routines so your mind can rest while you play your best golf.
