Golf Body Is Foundation To A Consistent Swing
Fitness and flexibility is what underpins your golf swing. Most golfers have never considered that their body is working against them and letting them down on the golf course.
Golf is a high impact explosive action sport as much as football or baseball. Let me give you a reality check for a moment, depending on your handicap you could have at least fifty high impacts shots off the tee and fairway. Over an extended period of time in all weather, walking up to 8 miles.
In weight lifting the same level of exertion in as little as four lifts can create total exhaustion. For the inconsistent golfer this is compounded by the fact they have many more strokes. The worse you play the more most golfers get upset – emotions equals more energy output. Even worse still the upset golfer hits faster leading to more inconsistency and more strokes. This is why golfing excellence is about mind, body and swing.
Now let’s add to the stress. Most golfers forget to drink water before, during and after a round. This leads to dehydration putting more stress on the body.
Running late on to the first tee without as much as a physical stretch or warm up is usually how most golfers start the round. Everything could be tight. There could be restricted joints, short muscles, wrist injury or worse back pain before you even start.
It could be in your hips, lower back, shoulders, wrists, elbows, ankles, or hamstrings.
Imagine over fifty percent of golfers have bad back on any golf course. That means they cannot complete a full and proper golf swing. As they fatigue due to injury during a round a golfers consistency fades too. Your body will continually attempt to compensate for your body not being able to execute your golf swing.
A consistent and reliable golf swing is impossible. You cannot produce a repeatable golf swing.
In fact you may cause yourself injury because you have poor physical conditioning to play golf.
Building and maintaining your conditioning required a few steps. Let’s start with a look at your standing posture at address and through the swing as well as assessing your body and physiology.
This will determine what is needed to build balance and stability. This is required before you can even consider building strength and power to hit long and straight. Poor body condition and movement restrictions will certainly play a part in causing slices, hitting pull shots and mis-hitting the ball.
So check your golf body out. Your physical fitness and flexibility is essential to your golf swing. Routines, a repeatable golf swing sequence, a solid mental game and having the right clubs can only come together if your body is up to it.
