Beginner Golf Instruction – The Fast Track To Success
Golf is one of those sports that people of almost any age can play and enjoy. If you are just starting or thinking about taking up the game there are definitely some things you should know before you head out on the course. Please read on for some helpful advice and also to learn the importance of beginner golf instruction.
This article is not going to attempt to get into are the specifics of the grip, stance, or swing. Some detailed information on the basics of the golf swing can be found by clicking on the link. However, it is a very good idea for anyone new to golf to actually get some one-on-one instruction from a professional. This is a great time to learn a few of the fundamentals and not get into any bad habits that can be hard to break. It is hard to stress too much the importance of having a second set of eyes to watch the many different aspects of your swing; backswing, downswing, impact position, etc.
It can be tempting to spend a lot of money on equipment when you first take up the game. Try to resist the urge. Pick-up some used clubs or see if you can get find discounts on equipment from last season. You do not need a full set of clubs to play golf so don’t let anyone convince you otherwise. All you need is 4 or 5 irons (say the odd numbers), 1 or 2 woods and a putter. If you are buying used clubs don’t fall into the trap of thinking that the guy selling them is a good golfer so the clubs must be good. In fact good golfers tend to use clubs that don’t have very much flex in the shaft and that will make it very difficult for you to get good results with them. You want to buy clubs with a “regular” flex.
The next thing you should do is familiarize yourself with some of the more important rules of golf. There are hundreds of rules but the ones you should focus on at first are the ones categorized as etiquette. Much of it really just comes down to being respectful of those you are sharing the golf course with. A quick google search on etiquette is all you need. Two of the most important rules to be aware of are not to talk or distract someone while they are swinging and not to hit your ball if there is a chance you could hit anyone with your ball. Sometimes your ball will go in unexpected directions so make sure to yell “fore” if you think someone is in danger of being hit.
Well, now that you know some of the basic rules, have some equipment and hopefully have taken a couple lessons it is time to find a golf course. {Many beginners start out on Par 3 golf courses because the holes are shorter and the price is usually pretty reasonable. Now it’s time to go play. Be forewarned though – golf is addictive!} {For your first few rounds you will probably be best off playing on a shorter par 3 course. Golfers that frequent these course are generally more understanding of slow play and wayward shots which will help with some of the initial stress you may feel. The most important thing is to just enjoy yourself – golf is a great game!}
