Nike VR Pro Combo Irons Review.
Ever noticed what clubs the world’s top players carry in their bag? No, then next time look closely at their clubs, especially the irons. You’ll notice that many of them use a mix of Muscle Back and Cavity Back irons. Generally speaking, the longer irons will be full cavity back with the short irons and wedges being blades. If the Pros are doing it, then it’s got to be the way forward.
With that in mind Nike have produced their VR Pro Combo Irons. This iron set progressively moves from Pocket Back 3 & 4 irons, to full Blades for clubs 8,9 and PW, with irons 5,6,7 being Split backs. This system is designed to give golfers more consistency from off centre hits and a higher trajectory with the long irons, while the Split Backs provide enhanced workability and control and finally the Blades offer the ultimate in feel and accuracy.
To precisely adjust the centre of gravity of each club, Nike have used their Centre of Gravity Mapping System. Nike has achieved the optimal launch trajectory and distance control of each club by moving the centre of gravity throughout the Vr Pro Combo set.
The Nike Victory Red Pro Combos are forged from 1025 stainless steel using a new high precision forging process. To achieve a perfectly level finish the club face is then machined and then the grooves are die-stamped onto the face to eliminate variance between the clubs.
Due to the rules changing with regards to grooves, Nike have unvieled their new X3X High Frequency grooves. Providing a more consistant ball flight and even more spin than Nike’s previous model, the new groove design has more grooves that are deeper and closer together, while still conforming to the new USGA and R&A rules.
The Nike VR Pro Combo Irons come with the ever popular True Temper Dynamic Gold steel shafts.
