Do You Want To Fix A Hook Once And For All?

What is Wrong With This Golf Ball?

Why doesn’t this golf ball go straight and not crooked? Whenever I hit it it goes either to the right or the left. Well if you’re hitting it to the left you have what is called a hook in golf terms. The slice is the opposite problem where you are hitting the ball to the right. How the ball travels depends on the position of the face of your club upon impact. If you are hitting a hook then your club face is closed instead of open or squared. So here are some ways how to fix a hook.

How to Grip the Club

The way you grip your club could be a problem. So first take the club and put your normal golf grip on it. Check out the position of your hands on the club. If you are right-handed check to see if you have more than two of your knuckles showing on your left hand. For left-handed golfers the opposite would be the case. If you are viewing more than two knuckles then you are probably setting yourself up for a hook shot. It is easy enough to correct, you simply rotate your grip on the club until you see 2 knuckles on your left hand. Check to make sure that the face of the club is square to the golf ball. Don’t forget to hold the club firm but not tightly and not too weak. If you grab it too tight your hands will flip over upon impact and the shot will hook.

Observe How You Stand

When learning how to fix a hook, let’s check out how you are addressing the ball. When driving the golf ball, you should be slightly forward of center or lined up with your left heel if you golf right or your right heel if you golf left. Check the fronts of your shoes to make sure they are lined up across from each other so that you could draw a straight line. Do not crowd the ball so much that you have to pull in your hands to hit the ball. This likely would result in a hook across your body.

Shifting Your Body Weight

If after examining your grip and your stance and everything is okay then you have one more thing to check. One other problem can be keeping too much of your weight on the wrong foot. If you golf right-handed then you should be keeping more of your weight on the left foot as you swing through the ball. When you have too much weight on the right foot you will probably end up hooking the ball. Also you should have your weight up on the balls of your feet and not back on your heels.

So Where Are We?

You have several suggestions to work with for how to fix a hook. Apply them one at a time and eliminate each one until you find your problem. Then of course practice your new method over and over in order to keep yourself from hooking the ball. Then you won’t have to ask yourself why you keep purchasing crooked golf balls.
