Still Looking For That Correct Golf Swing?
Can You Master a Correct Golf Swing?
Yes but only once you figure out the necessary chain of actions a correct golf swing requires from you. Once you implement this action chain then you will be able to enjoy the game of golf. So let’s get started with a step by step process for developing your correct golf swing.
First, What is the Golf Swing?
A correct golf swing is a series of actions that require each step to be followed correctly by the next step. Only when you complete all of these actions correctly will the result be a good golf shot. If you do not execute the chain of action properly you will not be able to hit a solid golf shot. This is a simple explanation that clears up the confusion for you right? Not So quick!
The Hand That Holds the Club
The large majority of golf mistakes that occur come from not holding the club correctly. Almost all great golfers agree that gripping the club too tightly causes problems such as the hook and the slice. If your golf drives are heading in directions that you had not planned then your grip is probably wrong. Make sure your grip on the club is in neutral; that is not too strong or too weak. You should see at least two or three knuckles on the left hand to have a correct grip. If you are looking down at your grip and do not see the two or three knuckles then rotate your hands until you do.
Body Alignment
Another problem that often occurs is golfers not having their body properly aligned as they address the ball. You are never going to get a correct golf swing if your body is not aligned properly to the target. The very first step is to select your target. To do this you should stand behind your ball. Pick out your target and then set the club head on the ground aligned with the target. Next, align your shoulders, hips and feet on a line that is slightly left of the target. Use caution not to close the face of the club which would then result in a hook. Keep your head behind the ball and do not lift it in order that you are not pulled out of your correct swing.
Are Your Feet in Good Standing?
To make a straight golf shot you use the square stance. This stance requires your feet to be pointed just left of the target. When making a shot from the sand trap or when chipping use the open stance where your left foot is pulled back. Make sure that your feet are spaced correctly which is never more than shoulder width for driving the ball. Regarding the golf ball, line it up with your left heal for using the longer fairway woods or driver. When using short irons, place the ball in the middle of your stance.
Time to Make the Correct Golf Swing
Now is the time to make a correct golf swing.Once you have done all the above check items correctly now bring the club back while keeping your arms straight. Keep the left arm totally straight through the swing but the right arm will bend at the elbow as it reaches your waist. Don’t jerk the club but use a smooth swing path and keep it low to the ground. For the full golf swing you should try to have the club end being parallel to the ground for the backswing. Not all shots will be full swings so judge the distance of your backswing for club level. In your backswing, begin to slightly shift your weight but only enough to make sure your right hip does not go past your right foot. Check that your right shoulder is pointing upward while your left shoulder is pointing downward. Your head stays behind the ball while moving it forward on a horizontal level. Your hips should not be rotated too drastically but your hips and back should move in natural unison. Going into your downswing do not use your hands to begin your downswing. You should be using your hips to start the downswing. It is essential that the left hip allows for your weight to be shifted to your left foot. If this chain of actions is performed correctly your swing should flow effortlessly and you will get the maximum club head speed which results in a correct golf swing. Remember in a full golf swing you want your head, shoulders and hips to be facing your target after the follow through for your golf shot. The only thing left for you then is to admire watching your ball rip down the fairway.
