Address The Ball Properly

Address the ball properly, and you will be able to coil and uncoil your torso and stay balanced. When you begin and end your swing in balance, you will be able to produce more power. If you can produce more power, you will gainmore distance on your shots.

Want to know how to set-up correctly? The next important golf instruction tip is stance width.We will show you the correct set-up in the next few paragraphs. When hitting your driver or fairway woods, your stance should be 2″ wider than your shoulders. For mid irons your feet should be shoulder width apart. You need to hit your short irons, with your feet 2″ narrower than your shoulders. Practice hitting balls with each of your clubs, and adjust your stance accordingly. Your stance can be adjusted as necessary.

Now, your lead foot should flare slightly toward the target. This will allow your shoulders and hips to coil and uncoil. Your lag foot needs to be straight to the target. You should also bend slightly from the hips, with your knees flexed. In this posture, your shoulders and arms will form a triangle, with your elbows pointing at your hips.

As you set-up, be sure that your shoulders and hips are in line with the target. This will give you the best chance to hit the golf ball where you are aiming.

To hit the shots you need to consistently, ball placement is crucial.  It will be different, depending on which club you are using. The ball will be placed further back in your stance, for the shorter clubs.

When you are using the driver, position the ball forward 3 ball widths in your stance.

When using your fairway woods or long irons, you should place the ball about 4″ forward in your stance.

Middle irons: The ball should be placed 1 ball width forward from center.

Short irons and wedges: The ball should be placed in the center of your stance.

You can adjust these ball placement suggestions to your liking. finding the ball positions that work for you, may take some time and practice. The chief thing is, find what works for you and your stance.

You do not want your weight on your heels, you need to be on the balls of your feet. placing your weight on your heels will keep you from being balanced in your swing. You need to be balanced throughout your swing to strike the ball firmly and drive it in the direction and distance you are striving for.
