Getting Over The Chipping Yips
Are you having issues with the chipping yips? Don’t worry, you are not the only one. A lot of pro golfers have suffered the consequences of having the chipping yips. Check out this video below which talks about what causes the yips and what you could do to fix them. It’s sad how easily we can all be affected!
A golfers worst nightmare are the chipping yips. It has been shown that those suffering from the yips, on average, add 5.5 shots more to their game. 5.5 shots!!
The physical reactions of having the chipping yips include freezing, twitching, jerks and tremors. All of which can be embarrassing and uncomfortable. These last two elements add to your anxiety and self-consciousness, along with your metal distress. The chipping yips have a tendency to stick with a golfer for a long period of time and if you are not careful with it, you might feel like quiting the game after a while!
But what I do know is that the golfer starts to focus on what is causing the chipping yips. They become so involved in trying to deduce what started the yips that their entire golf game suffers. These conditions are involuntary. Even if you attempt to control them, you just can’t. Not to mention the rest of your game!
So what could you do?
First you need to understand that the the chipping yips, or more correctly the ‘yips’, affect other players in different sports and professions. Many dart players, cricket players, dentists, typists, and musicians have all suffered from the yips.
Many players however, do get cured from their afflictions. They are enjoying the game once again, with no signs of the chipping yips returning.
How is this being achieved?
Some medical researchers maintain that chipping yips in golfers are caused by an underlying emotional factor. Many doctors have been using a process that is very similar to acupuncture which has been giving great results. Golfers who had the chipping yips on about 70% of their shots were tested. After treatment, it is common for the rate to decrease dramatically. A lot of the golfers concerned had reported not feeling any type of jerking or freezing sensations in their arms or hands.
What this means for you as a golfer is that if you are suffering from the chipping yips, you want to take a look at how you are feeling. Have you become so stressed out over your chipping yips, that it is ruining your game? Worrying incessantly over the yips has been proven to make things worse, not better.
Your best course of action would be to take some time to practice your shots outside of a golf game. Once the pressure is gone, you can easily concentrate on perfecting your chip shots and short game.
